FRANÇOIS BOURASSA - PIANO
Pianist and composer, François Bourassa has been conducting for the past 20 years one of the most active jazz ensembles in Canada. In the mid-80s the musician founded the François Bourassa Trio with Guy Boisvert, double bass and Greg Ritchie, drums. In 1985, the ensemble receives the Concours du nouveau talent at Montreal International Jazz Festival. The following year, the Trio launches Reflet 1, a first recording that receives the Félix of the Best jazz album. Follows a world tour where the musicians played first part at the Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Abbey Lincoln and Patricia Barber’s. In 1998, André Leroux, saxophonist, joins François Bourassa in a quartet. Three years later, the ensemble launches the recording Live, for which he gets the Juno of the best contemporary jazz album and the Opus for the Best CD jazz of the year. Then they tour Japan and China, and also opens the Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland’s in Canada.
