SHEILA
HANNIGAN - CELLO
Born in Nova Scotia, cellist Sheila Hannigan obtained
a Master Degree in interpretation at l'Université
de Montréal in 1993, and has also participated
in training courses in Banff, Swizerland and the United
States. Then working as a free lance in Montreal with
several ensembles namely I Musici de Montréal,
l'Orchestre Métropolitain, l'Opéra
de Montréal and le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne
among others. Her interest for non classical music has
brought her to collaborate with contemporary, popular
and folk music projects. She is a member of L'ensemble
de tango Romulo Larrea, Jazz-Arab Absinthe,
and she works with musicians of different styles such
as Richard Séguin, Coral Egan, Bernard
Primeau, Rémi Bolduc, Lhasa de Sela
and the Tea Party. Very active in studio, she regularly
works on soundtracks for films, television and albums.
Sheila Hannigan is a recipient of a grant from
CALQ which allows her to pursue some improvisation
courses with Mr. Eugene Friesen, American cellist.
